Kambo

Kambo

Kambo is a powerful cleansing ritual that originates in the rainforests of the Amazon.
For centuries, indigenous peoples have used this medicine to purify the bodyand mind, restore strength, and protect their energy.
It is collected from the Phyllomedusa bicolor — a bright green tree frog— without harming the animal. Kambo is therefore a gift from nature, not a sacrifice.

Unlike Sacred Plants, Kambo is not psychedelic.
It does not open inner worlds of visions, but works directly on the body and the energetic field.
It can feel like a fire baptism — intense, cleansing, and honest. It moves blockages, clears the system, and often leaves behind a deep sense of clarity and vitality.

Traditionally, Kambo was used as a hunter’s medicine — sharpening the senses, bringing focus, and strengthening the immune system.
In our modern world, it can serve in similar ways: as a reset, a support inpersonal processes, or a means to release what no longer serves you and reconnect with your natural strength.

At So Alegria, we guide Kambo with care, devotion, and a strong focus on safety.
We create a space in which you can move through the process at your own pace —with room for rest, music, and integration.
Not to steer your experience, but to hold and support you as you journey through the ritual.

Preparation

Preparation is already part of the Kambo ritual. It is not only about what you do, but about the attitude and presenceyou bring.

In the days before the ceremony, we invite you to eat lightly and cleanly — mostly plant-based, simple, and without excess.
Avoid alcohol, drugs, caffeine, and other substances that cloud the system, so that your body can be clear and receptive.
This allows Kambo to work more deeply and ensures that the cleansing isunhindered.

Take a moment to connect consciously with your intention.
What would you like to release? What would you like to strengthen?
Your intention doesn’t need to be perfectly formulated — it can be a feeling, awish, or a direction.
What matters is your dedication and willingness to open to whatever unfolds.

This preparation is not a strict rulebook, but an invitation to take yourself seriously — to approach the ceremony with clarity, respect, and surrender.

The Kambo session

After tuning in and setting your intention, you drink about 1.5 to 2 liters of water to prepare the body for cleansing.
We then make a few small superficial points on the skin — called gates in the Kambo tradition. On these gates, the secretion of the Kambo frog is applied. Through the lymphatic system, the medicine spreads quickly through the body.

Within minutes, you may feel warmth, a faster heartbeat, or tingling sensations. A phase of purification often follows — sweating, trembling, or vomiting. This usually lasts between 15 and 30 minutes. Afterward, calm returns, often followed by a sense of relief, clarity, and spaciousness.

Throughout theprocess, you are never alone. We guide you step by step, safeguard your safety, and ensure that you can fully surrender to the medicine.

APPLICATION OF THE SECRETION

Integration

After thesession, you will often feel clean and light, as if old weight has been released. Some people feel immediate energy and focus; others need a day to rest andrecover. The effects can continue to unfold in the days that follow — bringing increasedvitality, clarity, and inner peace.

We recommend taking it slow, drinking plenty of water, and eating lightly soyour body can recover and integrate optimally.

Kambo in a cycle

For a deeper effect, Kambo is often practiced in a cycle of three sessions within 28 days. With each session, the body recognizes the medicine more quickly, allowing it to work more deeply on physical, emotional, and energetic levels.

Before your first session, we always do a detailed intake to ensure a safe, personal, and respectful experience.

Health benefits

Kambo is known for its purifying and strengthening properties.
Many participants experience more energy, sharper focus, and a stronger immunesystem. It can help release tension and stored emotions, often leaving a sense of clarity and calm.

For those dealing with stress or burnout, Kambo is often felt as a powerful reset — helping to break patterns of tension and create space to comeback into balance. For some, it also becomes a catalyst to release unhealthy habits or repetitiv cycles.

Kambo does not work by adding something to you — it works by helping you let go of what you no longer need. In that release, new space arises — for vitality, clarity, and a deeper connection with yourself.

FAQ

Your questions,
our answers

What is Kambo?

Kambo is the cleansing secretion of the Phyllomedusa bicolor, a tree frog native to the Amazon rainforest. Indigenous peoples have used it for generations for purification, strength, and focus. It is not a psychedelic medicine — its effect is short and intense, working primarily on the body. Many people experience a sense of clarity, calm, and purification after a session —as if a weight has been lifted. We work with Kambo in a careful, ceremonial setting with close attention to safety and personal process. It is not a medical treatment, but a complementary and Sacred Ritual.

What are the benefits of Kambo?

Kambo is often seen as a powerful cleansing and reset medicine. It can support detoxification of body and mind, strengthen immunity and vitality, release old patterns or blockages, bring clarity and focus, and restore a sense of connection with the body. Every experience is personal — for some, Kambo works mainly on a physical level, while for others it can also touch emotional or spiritual layers.

How does a Kambo session unfold?

We always begin with an intake, where we discuss your health, medication, and intention. It’s important for us to know what your body needs and what is safe. To ground and prepare, we often start with Rapeh — a Sacred Tobacco Medicine that helps you land in your body and calm your mind. Under guidance, you then drink a measured amount of water. This supports the process, but it is never the goal to drink excessively in advance. We carefully guide the amount so your body receives exactly what it needs. Using a small heated stick, we open several superficial points on the skin — called gates. This feels briefly warm and does not draw blood. The Kambo secretion is then applied to these points. Almost immediately, your body begins to respond: warmth, a racing heartbeat, nausea, sweating, or pressure in the head. The active phase usually lasts fifteen to thirty minutes. Often there is a release through vomiting, tears, or sweating. The body lets go of what it no longer needs. After the peak, the effect subsides quickly. We help you recover calmly and offer something light and salty to eat, followed by time to share and ground together.

What can I experience?

A Kambo session can be intense, but is almost always followed by deep relaxation and clarity. During the session you may experience physical sensations such as heat, facial redness, a pounding heart, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea; sensations of pressure in the head, sweating, or tingling; and emotional or physical release through tears or perspiration. Afterward, many people feel lighter, calmer, and more present in their body. There may be emotional relief or mental clarity. It’s also common to feel tired and in need of rest — give yourself that space.

How should I prepare?

For Kambo, it’s important that your body is clean and balanced. In the days before, live as purely as possible: avoid alcohol, drugs, heavy or spicy food, sugar, and other substances that burden the system. The day before the session, eat lightly — think vegetables, soup, rice, or fruit. On the day of the ceremony, remain fasting for at least twelve hours beforehand, drinking only water or herbal tea. It is neither necessary nor safe to drink large amounts of water in advance; during the session we guide you in how much to drink. In the days after Kambo, continue eating lightly for at least one day so your body can recover gently. Before the ceremony, you’ll receive a detailed guide with all preparation steps.

What are the contraindications?

Kambo is powerful and not suitable for everyone. It should not be used in cases of serious heart or vascular disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, pregnancy or breast feeding, recent surgery, severe psychological imbalance, or use of certain medications (such as lithium, some antidepressants, or blood-pressure medication). If you are unsure or using medication, please discuss it with us. Safety always comes first — we work with Kambo only when it is responsible to do so.

What if I’m menstruating during a session?

During menstruation, your body is already in a natural cleansing process. Kambo can intensify this, which may cause stronger bleeding or a heavier reaction. For that reason, we recommend avoiding sessions during the first, most intense days of your cycle. It’s often better to reschedule to a later moment. Feel free to discuss it with us — we’re happy to find what suits you best.

What is the average group size?

We work in small groups of up to ten participants, ensuring personal attention, calm, and space for everyone’s process. Private 1-on-1 sessions are also available, and the sessions held at our home include a maximum of two participants.

Is the session physically demanding?

A Kambo session can feel uncomfortable. You may experience nausea, vomiting, sweating, diarrhea, dizziness, or a pounding heartbeat. These sensations are part of the cleansing process and usually fade quickly after the peak. We guide you step by step so that you feel safe and supported throughout.

How can I register?

If you wish to join a Kambo session, you can easily register via the booking form on our website. We will then contact you for an initial conversation to align and ensure it feels right. If it does, you’ll receive an intake form to discuss your health and background. During this process there is room for all your questions. Once everything feels clear and safe, your participation will be confirmed. After payment, your spot is officially reserved.
